Favorite Newborn Poses for PhotosLakewood Ranch, Florida Newborn PhotographerMy style of newborn photography is not full of stiff or uncomfortable poses. I love to capture your family loving on your baby as you naturally would. My favorites are the ones that showcase your family as you begin your new season of life with the newest addition to your family. My photos may sometimes look very candid and/or very natural. You may not feel natural in front of a lens; however, I give you gentle guidance that bring out natural reactions and connection. While guiding you in the natural light and showing those gorgeous connections, the results are all you and your family. To show you what I mean, here are some of my favorite poses with newborns so you can see what a session looks like with me. Let’s get the family together Whether this is your first or your fourth, we’ll get in some family snuggle time. We’ll usually take these in the master bedroom on the bed so there is plenty of room to spread out and include your fur baby or siblings. As you hold your baby, kiss him, study all their tiny details, and I’ll capture it. We can get a lot of different angles capturing all the different interactions and connections you are making with your baby. Time to lay baby on the bed This is one of the most natural poses. We just lay baby on the bed and let him naturally pose himself. He can begin swaddled, in a white onesie or with just a diaper on. I like to get the top of their head, toes, hands – all those tiny details. I’ll also get full-length shots as well. Seeing your tiny baby on your great big bed years down the road gives you a visual of just how tiny he was that we never can seem to remember as we get older. In the crib we go We’ll next step into your nursery and capture some sweet photos of your newborn in their crib. We can also take some photos of the family showcasing your nursery, especially if you created a particular theme or décor for the nursery. Just baby with each parent During the session, I love to capture photos of each parent loving on their baby. Seeing again how really tiny they were against your chest or in your arms will really be special as you look at these years from now and will be treasured forever. The actual flow of the session will depend totally on your baby and the rest of your family, if there are siblings. These are baby-led sessions, meaning we’ll go with however the baby is feeling at the time as well as mom, dad or the siblings. If everyone is ready to go at the beginning of the session, we’ll start with the entire family as little ones can get very tired quickly. If we get them first, they can then go play while I begin taking photos of just the baby and mom and dad. Again, we’ll go with the flow and capture everything we can. This allows a more relaxed and enjoyable session and you’ll have photos you will love and cherish forever.

Fresh 48 Session | Sarasota Newborn PhotographerI am so happy that most Covid restrictions have been lifted and Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Sarasota, Florida (as well as other area hospitals) is now allowing more than one person in the hospital room. This means Fresh 48's are back, baby! I love capturing a new baby within the first 24-48 hours of birth. I was able to capture this handsome little man when he was only 14 hours old! Fresh 48 sessions are perfect for remembering that first day of a baby's arrival. It's such a fleeting moment that won't come back because, as you know, babies change so fast! This is the fourth baby (and last, so the mom says) for this family. I have had the privilege of photographing all four of her children, albeit not all for Fresh 48. Photographing their first baby started my photography business back in 2017 and have been loving it ever since. You'll probably see photos from their newborn session in a future blog post. Meet Baby Kayden! Enjoy some of my favorites. Wouldn't you love to have your very first photos of your new baby taken within the first 24 - 48 hours? I thought so. What's Your Biggest Fear About Having Family Photos Taken?Bradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota Family PhotographerI bet it's you worrying about whether your children are going to cooperate or not during the photo session.
Don't let that stop you from having family photos taken. I have great tips on how we can prevent total meltdowns and still capture natural smiles and laughter. Here are a few of my tips: 1. Be sure you are relaxed yourself. If you feel stressed and frantic, chances are your children will feel the same way. Your being calm can help your children during the session. 2. Praise your children throughout the session. This is the absolute best thing that can help prevent any meltdowns. Praising your children leaves them wanting more and feeling happy. 3. Pack the snacks! For older babies and toddlers - think baby crackers, cheese, goldfish crackers, apples, gummies - anything that won't leave a mess and dirty their clothes. Let's chat more about how you can have a stress-free family photo session. 3 Effortless Steps to Have A Stress-free Newborn SessionBradenton, Lakewood Ranch, Sarasota Newborn PhotographerHere are my 3 effortless steps to have a stress-free newborn session: 1. It would be ideal to 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗣𝗔𝗥𝗘 bedcoverings using white or a solid neutral color – this will be less distracting when photographing your baby on the bed. 2. 𝗙𝗘𝗘𝗗 your baby about 15 minutes prior to the start of your session. Your baby will be happier and calmer. We, of course, will take any additional feeding breaks during the session and will capture those beautiful feeding moments. 3. All you have to do is 𝙍𝙀𝙇𝘼𝙓! Your baby will be in your arms most of the time - just where he or she belongs. So, just do what you naturally do – kissing and cuddling. Any questions? Are you concerned your children will misbehave or not cooperate during your photoshoot? Not to worry. Really! I love it if the children decide to release a little energy by running or playing - just being themselves. That's natural and creates a true lifestyle session. 1 | ADVANCE PREPARATIONIf your children are of the listening age, it really helps them prepare for the photoshoot if you talk to them about it beforehand. You can explain a little bit about what to expect. Tell them how excited you are to have photos of them and that they will be able to see themselves on your walls or in an album to remember and share with family. 2 | GET THEM INVOLVEDGenerally, little children love to help out. They want to be involved. Let them help you pick out their outfit. Usually, children end up being cranky or grouchy if they are thirsty, hungry or tired. On the day of the photoshoot, have them take an extra nap. We, of course, can take any necessary breaks to hold and comfort your little ones if they are just not having it. These are still wonderful moments - real and worth capturing. 3 | BRING EXTRA SNACKSAnother way to help those cranky, grouchy children - I always suggest to families with little ones to bring snacks and drinks as well as some treats - I believe in bribes. :-) Baby crackers, cheese, crackers, apples make good snacks - anything that won't leave a mess and dirty their clothes. Also, if your little ones aren't potty trained yet, bring extra diapers, wipes and probably a change of clothes, just in case. 4 | RELAX - LET THEM BE THEMI love to capture natural, raw emotions and connection. Sometimes, children do not or aren't going to stand still and do much smiling for a photo. You know what? That's fine with me. I don't force smiles or do awkward, strange poses. Don't worry if they start running around. I'll capture them having fun and they most likely won't even know I'm photographing them.

Think about the future of your portraits. There are so many benefits of having framed portraits in your home. Here are my top three reasons for framing your artwork: By creating a physical memory of your portraits, you will have something you can pick up, pass down and/or give as a gift. In our current digital age, it is so important, more than ever, to get those images printed. Where will all those photos on your phone or computer go? If you are like most people, they’ll just stay there. Computers crash; phones die. Keep those memories alive in print. Framing will add value to those printed memories. With our professional labs using quality construction and durable materials, framed portraits are great for keeping your favorite images safe. Just having prints can be damaged more easily gone unprotected. By having your most beautiful, favorite portraits framed, you will be preserving your precious memories forever! Oh, how I wish my baby pictures, parents, grandparents photos would have been protected. Instead, several old photos are bent, torn or damaged in some way. Don’t let this happen to you and your future generations. Framed portraits gives that added protection. The best part of having framed portraits in your home – instant home décor! You will be adding a personal touch to any space. However, since we are in Florida, it may be nice to stay out of the heat and relax in your own air-conditioned home for your family photos. Read on for the top five reasons to schedule yours in 2022. REASON #1 | Weather is something you won't have to worry about! Here in Florida, you never know when an afternoon shower might pop up, and forget about outdoor sessions during our rainy season. It's stressful for your photographer as well as you if you have to worry about whether your session has to be cancelled and rescheduled for another day. Especially, if you have had your makeup and hair done and everyone is all dressed up ready to go and as soon as you walk out the door, rain begins to fall. This could be very frustrating. Of course, you or photographers cannot control the weather, so what if that factor were removed? That's right! In-home family sessions happen whether it is raining or the sun is brightly shining. No need for rescheduling. REASON #2 | You can be barefoot! Being at home, there is no need for shoes! Your children will love that. No worries about having the perfect outfit only to find out the day of the shoot your children have either grown out of the shoes you wanted them to wear or their sneakers are all beat up. Or, when planning for their outfits, you would have the hassle of buying new shoes for your outdoor photo shoot. You don't have to worry about that with an in-home session. Bare feet look the best at your in-home family session. So, forget about going to the store to find the perfect shoes; let the feet be free! REASON #3 | In-home Family Sessions are Exclusive to You and Only You! If you wanted a unique space for your family session, you may have overlooked the obvious! Your own home is the perfect spot. This is where you live and connect with one another on a daily basis. This is your home where love abounds, where your children are growing up. Your decor is different from anyone else's and is special only to you and your family. That deserves to be recognized and remembered for years down the road. Your home is where you spend most of your time as a family. Why not showcase it in your family photos? REASON #4 | Your Home is Where Your Children are the Most Comfortable! If your children are toddlers, home is where they are the most comfortable and more apt to have fun and play in their own environment. Taking them to a new place outside may make them feel shy, nervous or possibly scared a little. These would not make for great photos. Even though, usually most younger children would warm up after about 10 -15 minutes, think how much better it would be if they were comfortable from the very start by being in their own home. REASON #5 | You Don't Have to Load up the Children and Travel to the Photoshoot This is the best part of all - you won't have to leave your home! Photos can happen rain or shine! No worries about if you should have them dressed before or after you arrive at the outdoor location. Or, they might drop a snack on their clothes and you definitely need snacks on your "road trip" to the photoshoot. Or, will Betsy fall asleep on the way? If so, will she be grumpy when you arrive and have to wake her up? Or, you think you will need to leave earlier to give her time to wake up. Or, you worry about having enough time to dress everyone when you arrive and don't forget about traffic because it will be near rush hour to make it in time for the golden hour before the sun sets completely...and on and on. With an in-home family session, you get dressed, get the children dressed and you are already at your destination without having to ever leave your home. No traffic worries, or naps in the car, or concern of arriving too late. It's a win-win for all. Are you ready to have your stress-free in-home family photo session? Newborn Family Session | Lakewood Ranch, FL Newborn PhotographerMaternity | Newborn | Family Photography | Lakewood Ranch, FLI had the privilege recently of photographing one of my neighbors in Lakewood Ranch who just added a third baby to their growing family. Baby Emma has two adoring older brothers. I think she's going to get spoiled. Baby Emma was so easy to photograph. The boys were very active and hard to keep still, but they were just being themselves and that's what I love to capture. Boys being boys and having fun. Some of my favorite photos I captured were when mom had to nurse Emma. While I was waiting for her in the family room to finish, I heard the boys in the nursery and it sounded like mom was reading to them while she was nursing. I quickly grabbed my camera and just stood in the doorway taking photos. These are the moments that are so natural. Not posed, not even directed to sit a certain way. I loved capturing these special moments with mom taking care of her baby while also connecting with her two boys. That's what it's all about and why I love my job so much! Thank you for letting me be a part of your family, even just for a little while. Can't wait to see the wall art! If you are ready to have a baby or know someone who is, contact me. I would love to capture your story and create your legacy.
Why Golden Hour is the Best Time of Day for Photographs | Sarasota Family PhotographerI think I can speak for most photographers in saying that we love to shoot during the golden hour because that time of day, an hour after sunrise or an hour before sunset and even shortly after sunset, creates a naturally diffused, pinkish or golden light that is absolutely gorgeous in creating beautiful portraits. Golden hour produces that warm and soft glow which makes it perfect for outdoor maternity or family portraits. Since the sun is low in the sky, this enables me to block harsh sunlight on you to avoid shadows on your face as well as prevents you from that awful squinting. The mood the golden hour provokes is happy and comforting. It allows beautiful blurred backgrounds or beautiful highlights where light may filter through foliage. ...and when the sun has just set, who doesn't love a beautiful silhouette? So, when is the best time of the year to take golden hour photos for you and your family? Well, here on the central west coast of Florida, all year! However, if you have very young children who usually go to bed by 7 p.m. or even 7:30 p.m.., then you will want to avoid certain times of the year so as to not interrupt their bedtimes. Upon special request, we could do a sunrise session because your little one gets up at 5 a.m. anyway, right? I have created a Golden Hour Sunset Time Chart, by season, for the sunset times in 2022 for my area on the central west coast of Florida. Sunset times shown are from the beginning of the month to the end of the last month of each season. For sessions with DreamWorld Photography: WINTER - we will meet between 4:45 p.m. & 6:45 p.m. These months could work for young families. SPRING - in early April, shoots will start around 6:30 p.m. In late May and June, shoots will start around 7 - 7:30 p.m. SUMMER - long summer months mean later sunsets. These sessions are best for families who have older children with later bedtimes. FALL - the time changes considerably. We may start your shoot at 6 p.m. in the beginning of fall and by the end, we will start around 4:30 p.m. The fall months would work best for young families with early bedtimes. All these shooting start times are approximate. It will depend upon the month and day you choose. All sessions will begin approximately one hour before the time of the sunset. So, when will be the best time for your family to have golden hour photographs taken? Well, according to the times listed above, if you have small children with early bedtimes, fall and winter would work the best for you. Otherwise, any time of the year will work depending upon what type of portrait session you are having. Are you ready to have your beautiful portraits taken during the golden hour? Let's chat and get you on the schedule.
