4 Top Tips for What to Wear to Your Outdoor Family Session, Sarasota Family PhotographerFollow along for the next four days as I share my 4 Top Tips for What to Wear to Your Outdoor Family Session. Tip 1. CONSIDER HOW AND WHERE YOU PLAN TO USE YOUR PHOTOS. You may not have even thought about where you may display your photos (and not only on your computer.) If you specifically hired a photographer with the intention of either hanging your artwork or displaying your images in an album or folio box, you may want to think about the color scheme in your home. Ask yourself what colors should you wear that will work well with your décor. Think of the complimentary colors in your wardrobe that would look perfectly in the room or rooms you plan to display your images. Important: Think of coordinating your wardrobe colors and not everyone matching. Gone are the days of everyone wearing khaki pants and white shirts. Side tip: Visit clothing stores where they have outfits in color coordinating collections. Check in tomorrow, same place, same time for Tip #2! Ready to book your outdoor family session? They might not live local
Unfortunately, many of us may not have the privilege of having grandparents that live “a stone’s throw away.” I know I didn’t growing up. My maternal grandparents had already died by the time I was one and my paternal grandmother lived in Alabama when we lived in Florida. We would only get to see her once a year. When I was older and had a camera, I always made sure to take pictures of her and us with her. I cherish the one photograph I took when I had my daughter. It was a four-generation picture – the only one we got before she passed away. These are treasured memories you don’t want to miss, especially if they don’t live nearby. So, if they are going to be in town because you just had a baby or for any other reason, include them with your family session. Why? They might like to play We all know grandparents love to spoil their grandchildren and love to play with them as well. These are great moments to capture in photos – memories your children will cherish forever. Why? Great time to get them alone with grandchildren This is the perfect time to get just the grandparents with their new little grandchild and/or grandchildren. We’ll get wonderful shots of them playing, holding them – connecting with them. Why? Great time to include extended family Since the grandparents are in town, this is the best time to get everyone in the picture – a three, maybe four-generation - maybe even a five-generation photograph. What memories those would be to have and to show and pass down from generation to generation. Grandparents Day is not too far off coming up on September 12. What a perfect gift to give them! Are you ready to take these treasured memories with the grandparents? Click the button below. I would love to capture your story and create your legacy. As a mother to three adult children and Nana to eight beautiful grandchildren, I know just how wonderful, crazy and chaotic your life is with your wonderful children. But, I also know how FAST it slips away. What I wouldn't give for one more loose tooth, one more time of holding their hand while walking and especially one more moment of having my little children crawl into my arms and fall asleep. Capturing these moments, these looks, and this time before it's gone so you can look back at these beautiful memories is my WHY for being a photographer. You only have these babies and children for a short time, and I am here to bring this season to life so you can remember it in all its glorious detail forever! If that speaks to your heart as it does mine, click on the button below and let's start capturing your story and creating your legacy! The 3 Best Tips for Posing with Your Children | Sarasota Family PhotographerTired of just taking photos of your children without your being in them? Yes! You need to be in the photos with your children. You deserve it. I absolutely make sure moms (including myself when I get together with my own family) get into the photos with their children. So, to help you fight any possible shyness, resistance or insecurities of being in front of the camera, here are the three best tips for posing with your children. If it's just dad snapping some photos, or for your birthday or even if it's just because, these tips will help you. If you are currently one of my clients or a future client, no worries. During our session, I gently guide and direct you through these tips as well as others to create natural, authentic connection between you and your children. Angle towards the camera Position yourself so your body is angled towards the camera and not straight on. Most moms do the standard pose of standing in the middle with arms wrapped around each child staring straight into the camera. Because of this type of pose with bodies straight on, the camera makes you look the widest. Who wants that, am I right? Being angled presents a more flattering pose. Wrap your arm around your child positioning your body towards the child. If you have more than one child, have them wrap their arms around you. You can switch up the positions so it doesn't look like you are only favoring one child. Get up close and personal Don't worry about personal space when taking photos with your children. It may feel natural to have a gap when you are hugging, but in an image - it will look and feel large. For more emotion and connection, get up close and personal and put your faces together. Go cheek to cheek or nose to nose to ensure you are getting that closeness with connection and touching. Move it! Move it! It's time to get up and move with your children. You'll look back at these moments of being fun with genuine, natural smiles. Depending upon their ages, you can swing them around, chase after them, tickle them, walk and talk or just dance! You won't even remember you are having photos taken.
There you go! Three simple, easy posing tips for you and your children. Use these tips by trying them out yourself or preparing for a photo session with me. These tips will help you feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera while at the same time, giving you authentic, natural emotions and connection with beautiful images of you and your children. Now, pass that camera off or book your family session with me - all the while feeling positive and self-confident that you will look your absolute best! Ready? Top Three Tips on What to Wear to Your Next Photo Session | Sarasota Family PhotographerThe goal when deciding what to wear to your session is to ensure the clothing doesn't overpower the faces and emotional connection of your family. Follow these three simple tips to easily create your family's wardrobe that will show off your personalities and that will stay classic for years to come. Begin with choosing ONE or TWO base colors. The base colors are usually solid neutral colors, such as: white, tan, black, navy, gray and denim. These base colors could be pants, jackets, shorts or dresses throughout the grouping in order to build cohesion. Keep in mind, when deciding on your clothes, short dresses or skirts can be hard to move around in during the session, as we will be walking around, sitting down, laying down, etc. Therefore, wearing a longer dress/skirt or pants will work the best. With this in mind, I suggest Mom chooses her clothes first and then coordinate the rest of your family around that. Choose two to three colors to coordinate throughout the family. The colors you choose should appear a minimum of three times on three different people. Think of accessories you could add that would bring in a balance of your colors. Choosing multiple shades of the same color can be a well-balanced and easy combination. Clothes to avoid. It is best to stay away from red and busy patterns. Think coordinating, not matching. Bold, bright or heavily patterned clothes will "date" an image and cause your portraits to feel out of style after the fads have changed. Also, avoid logos, thick stripes, loud plaids or large bright flowers for maximum emotional impact in your portrait. Shoes matter, too. No athletic shoes for portraits. No need to break the budget. Pull some basics from your closet and add a few new pieces. Need some ideas and inspiration? Here are some favorite stores where you can find clothes (budget friendly and a little splurge) that will photograph beautifully. Old Navy - you'll find something for the whole family Zara - perfect for children (my daughter loves them for her children) Anthropologie - for moms Madewell - another good one for moms Feel free to ask me questions when planning what to wear for your next photoshoot. I'd love to help.
