Commonly Asked Headshot FAQ's
Q. What is a headshot?
A. A headshot is focused on capturing a professional image of a person's face, generally from the shoulders up. However, today’s headshots can be a little more creative and half to full body photos can be just as appropriate, depending upon what you have in mind on how you want to use your headshots.
Q. Why are headshots important?
A. Because they provide a visual representation of you. They are often used for professional profiles, such as, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc. and in business for networking and marketing purposes.
Q. What should I wear for a headshot?
A, DreamWorld Photography will provide you with a complete Style Guide on what to wear and how to prepare for your headshot session.
Q. Should I use makeup for a headshot?
A. Yes! Makeup can even out skin tones and reduce shine as well as create a “camera ready” look to showcase your professional look. For women, it's advisable to wear makeup that enhances your natural features but is not too heavy. Men may also benefit from light makeup to reduce shine. The Style Guide will give you professional tips on how to apply makeup. However, it is highly recommended to hire a professional makeup artist to provide a polished look and ensure you feel confident in front of the camera. With DreamWorld Photography’s full sessions, professional makeup artistry is included with your session fee.
Q. How long does a headshot session take?
A. If you book a full session, they generally are two hours including makeup time. The Micro Headshot Marathon sessions are 20 minutes.
Q. How often should my headshot be updated?
A. A good rule of thumb is about every one to two years or if there’s a significant change in your appearance. You may also need to update it if you change jobs where your current headshot would not fit well with your new job.
Q. Where will my headshot session take place?
A. DreamWorld Photography is a natural light photographer; therefore, sessions will take place either outdoors or at your place of business as long as there is sufficient natural light.
