One of the benefits of living on the west central coast of Florida is we have an abundance of outdoor locations perfect for family photos.

When I first began, I only specialized in photographing newborns indoors because I thought that was the only place that would be best for them as well as my style at that time was only posed photography. After a couple of years, I found I really preferred more of a lifestyle approach where I capture natural and raw emotions, real connection between family members and just fun moments.

As I started photographing more lifestyle images, I found there are certain things that attract my ideal client for these type of photo sessions. I have outlined them below to see if we would be a good fit for your next family session.

1. LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

As I mentioned above, the west central coast of Florida has a multitude of beautiful outdoor locations. The beach seems to be the number one place families want their photos taken during the golden hour (within an hour of sunset) to capture that beautiful lighting our Florida sunsets provide. Local parks and preserves are also very popular, especially for the more adventurous family that won't mind driving an extra 30 minutes or so and once there, walking a little bit to get to the perfect spot. Outside of their own home can also sometimes provide the perfect backdrop.

2. MY FAMILIES WANT TO EXPRESS EMOTIONS, BE CANDID, HAVE FUN

I like to say "perfectly imperfect" is the way I like to capture families. We'll capture one or two shots of everyone looking at the camera, but the rest of the session will mostly be of you not looking at my camera, unless I ask you to. I love children being children. If they run around, they run around and I'll capture that. If they want to explore, we'll explore with them. They can hold their favorite stuffed animal, or if they grab a rock or stick, it doesn't matter. You love capturing those candid, fun, emotional moments because that is who they truly are in that moment and that is something you'll cherish forever.

3. YOU WANT NATURAL LIGHT - NO HARSH ARTIFICIAL LIGHTING FOR YOU

I am a natural light photographer. I never use flash or bring huge lighting equipment with me. Natural environmental light is an important part of your story in my photos. It brings out the beauty of your surroundings showcasing your family compared to regular type of images. Families book an outdoor session with me because they want that natural outdoor lighting. You are willing to keep your little ones up past their bedtime or drive a little further to get those type of images during that perfect golden hour time.

4. YOU LOVE TO LOVE ON ONE ANOTHER

I love families who aren't afraid to express their love to one another and with their children. This could mean snuggling, kissing, tickling - whatever brings y'all close, literally close to each other, like practically on top of each other. I love to see a family cuddle up. I'll guide you into all those snuggles to get the best shots.

5. YOU WANT A FANTASTIC, RELAXED EXPERIENCE

I enjoy providing a wonderful client experience from the beginning to the end. I want it to be as easy as possible for you from the time you book your session, during the session, and receiving your gorgeous images. You want a relaxed and fun experience. You should leave your session pleasantly surprised as to how easy and fun it was. You know you won't be wasting time during your session yelling at the children to be still or forcing cheesy smiles. My families will follow my guidelines with preparing their children for the session so they will be relaxed, tummies full and ready to play. Because of this, they will naturally be smiling because they are having fun. You'll relax with the knowledge I will be gently guiding you as well as giving you plenty of room to just be yourselves. You will trust I am capturing just the right amount of details and all your family love and connection you would expect from our session.
