4 Whys to Involve Grandparents in Your Family Photo Session
Sarasota Family Photographer
Why? They might not live local
Unfortunately, many of us may not have the privilege of having grandparents that live “a stone’s throw away.” I know I didn’t growing up. My maternal grandparents had already died by the time I was one and my paternal grandmother lived in Alabama when we lived in Florida. We would only get to see her once a year. When I was older and had a camera, I always made sure to take pictures of her and us with her. I cherish the one photograph I took when I had my daughter. It was a four-generation picture – the only one we got before she passed away. These are treasured memories you don’t want to miss, especially if they don’t live nearby. So, if they are going to be in town because you just had a baby or for any other reason, include them with your family session.
Why? They might like to play
We all know grandparents love to spoil their grandchildren and love to play with them as well. These are great moments to capture in photos – memories your children will cherish forever.
Why? Great time to get them alone with grandchildren
This is the perfect time to get just the grandparents with their new little grandchild and/or grandchildren. We’ll get wonderful shots of them playing, holding them – connecting with them.
Why? Great time to include extended family
Since the grandparents are in town, this is the best time to get everyone in the picture – a three, maybe four-generation - maybe even a five-generation photograph. What memories those would be to have and to show and pass down from generation to generation.
Grandparents Day is not too far off coming up on September 12. What a perfect gift to give them!
Are you ready to take these treasured memories with the grandparents? Click the button below. I would love to capture your story and create your legacy.
I'm Pregnant! Top Five Things To Do When Planning for Your Baby
Sarasota Newborn Photographer
Congratulations on your first pregnancy! You will probably start to hear a ton of advice from those who have gone before you - your mother, your sister, your friends. Everyone loves to celebrate the anticipation of a new baby! But, you still may be asking yourself, "I'm pregnant, now what?"
Here are my top five things to do each trimester (after informing your parents and loved ones first, of course) when you are pregnant.
I Just Found Out I'm Pregnant! Now, what?
T O D O E V E R Y T R I M E S T E R
1. DRINK PLENTY OF WATER
This should be a given, but it is especially important when you are pregnant. You will need more water than the average person when you are pregnant. Why? Because drinking more water is needed to form amniotic fluid, produce extra blood, build new tissue, carry nutrients, enhance digestion and flush out wastes and toxins. How much water should you drink every day? According to the Institute of Medicine, pregnant women need to drink ten 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

2. SCHEDULE YOUR FIRST OB/GYN DOCTOR'S APPOINTMENT
According to The American Pregnancy Association, you should schedule your first appointment within eight weeks of your last menstrual period. Regular appointments throughout your pregnancy ensures the health of you and your baby. In addition, prenatal care includes education on your pregnancy and childbirth.

3. DECIDE AND PLAN WHERE YOU WANT TO DELIVER YOUR BABY
While many women still have their babies in hospitals, there are those that want a more natural birth and will arrange to have their baby at a birthing center or even at home. Wherever you choose, it's important to discuss with your doctor the pros and cons as well as risks with your place of birth choice and what's the best option for you.

4. REGISTER FOR BABY SHOWER GIFTS
Now, we're getting into the fun stuff of having a baby - choosing a theme for your baby's nursery and then choosing gifts that will match that theme as well as registering for all the practical things a newborn baby will need. You can look here for a list of the "must haves" for taking care of a newborn.

5. ANNOUNCE BABY'S BIRTH
You are excited now! You just had a baby. Now's the time to tell the world. You can do this verbally, through text, social media or send announcement cards with a gorgeous portrait of your baby taken by a professional photographer - me! Right? I hope so.

What Do I Do with My Family Photos Now?
Sarasota Family Photographer
Stumped for ideas on how to display your gorgeous family photos? You wouldn't be alone. If you only have digitals, they most likely are still sitting on your computer where you, your family and everyone else aren't able to enjoy them on a regular basis. Who wants to constantly scroll through thousands of pictures and then forget about them?
You take photos on your phone because your family is important to you. You want to remember that special event, occasion, your children doing crazy things, etc. You want to remember that frozen moment in time. You like to see the changes in yourself as well as your loved ones over the years.
Having all those candid photos are great, but now you want beautiful portraits taken by a professional photographer. But, what will you do with those gorgeous pieces of art now? I can solve that problem for you.
As a full service professional photographer serving Sarasota and surrounding areas, I have software where I can create room mock-ups showing various options of how you could display your artwork. I can use the pre-designed room templates included in my software to show you exactly how they will look on your wall. Here are samples of a few ideas:
If the pre-designed mock-ups won't work for you, I can come to your home to take a picture of the wall or walls you would like your artwork displayed or you could take a picture and send it to me. I can then create a customized sample of how your portraits could be displayed.
Seeing photos in an album, on a table or on a wall stimulates real, true emotions and brings back that special time in your life or remembering a special loved one who may have passed away. That's why prints matter and why I love offering my clients tangible products that will be heirlooms and are priceless. Portraits are a visual history where memories are created and will last a lifetime, from generation to generation. They show special occasions, milestones and growth that you will look at and remember. You'll laugh; you'll cry. You'll remember.
Is there a wall you are thinking of to add family portraits? Contact me! Visit my Products page here to see the various pieces of wall art and products I offer.

School Photography - A Modern Take on Traditional School Photos
Exactly, what is Boutique School Photography?
Bringing school portraits up to a whole new level by providing a custom, boutique experience for your student.
Boutique School Photography captures children in a very relaxed, natural way. No awkward, stiff, boring poses like traditional school pictures – just the real and authentic child. No more bright flashes and busy backgrounds. These are fun and encourages children to just be their natural selves. Smiles are never forced. Instead, we talk to the children and capture their expressions as they are in that moment; being themselves. We create a relaxed and fun environment during the short period of time of photographing your student. The background is black and the photos will be simple, yet classic. Or, we can take the photos outside using nature as the backdrop.
Just because your school may not have partnered with me (yet) for Boutique School Portraits doesn't mean you have to miss out on photos of your child(ren) that you will actually love.
Would you like to have authentic, natural photos of your pre-school to school-aged children with portraits you will actually LOVE? Click on the button below to find out more information and book a session. We can set up a shoot anytime - doesn't have to be during the school year.
As a mother to three adult children and Nana to eight beautiful grandchildren, I know just how wonderful, crazy and chaotic your life is with your wonderful children.
But, I also know how FAST it slips away.
What I wouldn't give for one more loose tooth, one more time of holding their hand while walking and especially one more moment of having my little children crawl into my arms and fall asleep.
Capturing these moments, these looks, and this time before it's gone so you can look back at these beautiful memories is my WHY for being a photographer.
You only have these babies and children for a short time, and I am here to bring this season to life so you can remember it in all its glorious detail forever!
If that speaks to your heart as it does mine, click on the button below and let's start capturing your story and creating your legacy!
The 3 Best Tips for Posing with Your Children | Sarasota Family Photographer
Tired of just taking photos of your children without your being in them?
Yes! You need to be in the photos with your children. You deserve it. I absolutely make sure moms (including myself when I get together with my own family) get into the photos with their children.
So, to help you fight any possible shyness, resistance or insecurities of being in front of the camera, here are the three best tips for posing with your children. If it's just dad snapping some photos, or for your birthday or even if it's just because, these tips will help you.
If you are currently one of my clients or a future client, no worries. During our session, I gently guide and direct you through these tips as well as others to create natural, authentic connection between you and your children.
Angle towards the camera
Position yourself so your body is angled towards the camera and not straight on. Most moms do the standard pose of standing in the middle with arms wrapped around each child staring straight into the camera. Because of this type of pose with bodies straight on, the camera makes you look the widest. Who wants that, am I right?
Being angled presents a more flattering pose. Wrap your arm around your child positioning your body towards the child. If you have more than one child, have them wrap their arms around you. You can switch up the positions so it doesn't look like you are only favoring one child.
Get up close and personal
Don't worry about personal space when taking photos with your children. It may feel natural to have a gap when you are hugging, but in an image - it will look and feel large. For more emotion and connection, get up close and personal and put your faces together.
Go cheek to cheek or nose to nose to ensure you are getting that closeness with connection and touching.
Move it! Move it!
It's time to get up and move with your children. You'll look back at these moments of being fun with genuine, natural smiles. Depending upon their ages, you can swing them around, chase after them, tickle them, walk and talk or just dance! You won't even remember you are having photos taken.
There you go! Three simple, easy posing tips for you and your children. Use these tips by trying them out yourself or preparing for a photo session with me. These tips will help you feel comfortable and natural in front of the camera while at the same time, giving you authentic, natural emotions and connection with beautiful images of you and your children.
Now, pass that camera off or book your family session with me - all the while feeling positive and self-confident that you will look your absolute best!

Hey there! I don't think I have ever done an intro post here on my blog. I have on Instagram, but not here.
So, I thought it's time to introduce myself.
I’m Patti – a natural light lifestyle newborn and family photographer based in Bradenton, Florida. When I take photos of families, I make sure mom and dad are always captured as well. Because, when you are taking photos yourself of your own children, you generally are not in the photos. I’ve always believed the parents should be in the photos as well. There’s never a time whenever I am with my own family that when we take photos, my husband and I are always included as well. (A tripod is your best friend.) These are memories your children will cherish forever!
I am a Florida native – a rarity, I know. I have always loved taking photos – I almost became a wedding photographer years ago, but became a wedding planner instead, which I did for 14 years. But, photography has always been my passion.
I love capturing imperfectly perfect images - capturing real life and true connection. I have eight beautiful grandchildren that I absolutely adore and, of course, take endless pictures of whenever I see them – professional and personal shots. I love my little photography business.
Dolphins are my fave and going to the beach (my happy place) to watch our beautiful Florida sunsets is the absolute best! I am also addicted to Diet Pepsi and chocolate! "Rocky" is my all time favorite movie. As you can see behind me in the picture below, you'll see the Playbill from the play, "Rocky" when it was in New York several years ago. It was fantastic!
Now, tell me. Who are you? Where are you from? Do you prefer indoor or outdoor photos? Leave me a comment.
Contact me when you are ready to have your family photos taken. I would love to capture you and your family, creating your legacy.
